Scientific Governance

Credible evidence depends on credible governance. The Foundation proposes a layered governance framework that separates fiduciary oversight, scientific direction, and independent data review. The intent is to protect participants, preserve the objectivity of science, and ensure that no single interest can influence the conduct or interpretation of a study.

Governance Components

  • Board of Trustees. Holds fiduciary responsibility for the Foundation, approves policy, and safeguards the not-for-profit mission and its independence.

  • Scientific Advisors. Provide direction on research strategy, prioritization of questions, and methodological standards across the portfolio.

  • Medical Advisors. Advice on clinical relevance, patient safety considerations, and the interpretation of clinical findings.

  • Ayurveda Advisors. Bring expertise in Ayurvedic theory, formulations, and practice to ensure that traditional interventions are characterized accurately and studied appropriately.

  • Integrative Medicine Advisors. Advice on how interventions function within combined models of care alongside conventional treatment.

  • Disease-Specific Experts. Contribute condition-level knowledge to protocol design, endpoint selection, and interpretation for each research program.

  • Data Scientists. Lead statistical design, data management standards, and analytical methods, including approaches suited to real-world data.

  • Research Ethics Professionals. Advise on ethical design, informed consent, and the protection of participant rights and welfare.

  • Independent Data Review Function. An independent body, separate from investigators and from the Foundation's operational staff, responsible for reviewing accumulating safety and quality data and for advising on study continuation where relevant.

Governance Principles

Four principles govern how these bodies operate. Independence means that scientific and data-review functions operate at arm's length from any party with an interest in a particular result. Transparency means that methods, protocols, and results are documented and, where appropriate, registered and published regardless of outcome. Accountability means that decisions are recorded, roles are defined, and conflicts of interest are declared and managed. Scientific integrity means that pre-specified methods are followed, deviations are reported, and findings are presented honestly and completely.

The Foundation holds itself responsible and accountable to the public, and remains available to clinical research participants subjects to review their grievances and to intervene where necessary.
